The current production, The Great Tang Empress, tells a single story in five acts: the rise of Wu Zetian, from entering the palace to taking the throne. These are the elements you'll see along the way.

The evening opens with the orchestra — an ensemble of classical Chinese instruments such as the pipa lute, the zheng zither, bamboo flutes and mouth-organ (sheng) — setting the sound world of the Tang court.
